Windows 10: Office arrives as a Universal App on Windows 10

After seeing their iOS and Android owning friends receiving versions of the major Microsoft Office apps on their phones and tablets, Windows Phone owners will now receive the latest version of Office with Windows 10.

Office universal apps on Windows 10 will offer a consistent, touch-first experience across phone, tablet and PC with new versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and Outlook.

These versions will allow users to create and edit Word documents, annotate slides in real-time with new inking features or easily present PowerPoint presentations, or use Excel to create or update spreadsheets without a keyboard or mouse.

Noting Microsoft's language when describing the features, it looks like PowerPoint will be mainly used for viewing or presenting existing presentations, rather than creating or editing these. Perhaps that feature will be behind an Office 365 paywall.

As Universal Apps, these will come free with Windows 10 on phone and tablets, and will be available in the Store for PCs.

Microsoft also moved to assure Enterprise users that the next version of the Office desktop suite is also currently in development, more on this will be announced by the software giant in the coming months.
