Dell update their Latitude portfolio with design queues taken from the award winning XPS line and create some seriously thin and light notebooks and 2-in-1 devices.
Less than two years after founder, Michael Dell, brought his company back into private ownership we are really starting to see a company learning to hit its stride again.
For the years before this privatisation - the largest in American Corporate history - took place, design for Dell products could charitably have been called functional. They did the job they were supposed to do, and nothing more.
Fast forward to 2016 and we see a different company starting to emerge. The recent CES show in Las Vegas saw multiple Dell products win awards for Design, Engineering and Innovation.
Dell has announced an expanded selection of Latitude devices, the product line targeting business and enterprise customers, and looks to leverage the stunning design and InfinityEdge display first seen in last year's consumer laptop the XPS 13, with almost no bezel on the display.
“For more than 20 years, Latitude products have been a leading choice among commercial customers worldwide for their unmatched security, manageability, reliability and support features,” said Kirk Schell, vice president and general manager, commercial client solutions, Dell. “With the new Latitude line, we are delivering commercial devices employees will desire for being thinner, lighter and more capable than many of the most popular consumer products without compromising on the security and manageability requirements of IT.”
If Dell can produce award winning design changes in their device line-up within two years, we look forward to seeing what they can do going on from here.
