Tallaght played host to the Three Ireland’s EStars, as the iconic Shamrock Rovers Football Club played host to the most spectacular league date yet in what is Ireland’s biggest esports adventure.
Three Ireland’s EStars is the country’s largest ever esports tournament and showcases the intense action and epic drama of top-level competitive gaming on a scale never seen before in this country. Ten teams, representing nine League of Ireland premier league football clubs and main sponsors Three, are fighting it out over the next three weeks of gruelling competition to earn their place in the 3Arena in Dublin on May 13th and the chance to win €20,000 and a trip to Las Vegas, all on board Big Betty, the mobile esports arena.
To mark the special occasion, Three Ireland’s EStars staged an incredible showcase evening at the home of Shamrock Rovers’ Tallaght Stadium with thumping entertainment provided by the percussion troupe, The Hit Machine Drummers. Guests and players alike were treated to a surprise appearance from a string of high profile Premier League footballers including Davy Propper, Tim Krul and Gaetan Bong as well as Ireland’s legendary Niall Quinn, who all came down to check out the latest competitive round of Ireland’s elite esports action.
Shamrock Rovers certainly capitalised on the home advantage with a clinical victory over the Limerick EStars, sending the team to the top of the standings after scoring the fifth consecutive victory. Rivals Team Three and St. Pat's bowed to the pressure of a resurgent Dundalk and a comfortable Sligo respectively, leaving second place in the league a crowded four-team tie. Caster Nikita Buffee declared Darren Hopkins of Sligo Rovers as MVP of the night, while Cork took the accolade as the Team display of Week Six of the league.
Mags Byrne of Three Ireland’s EStars said, “The competition last night was seriously intense. This is not a game, it’s more than that. With a cash prize of €20,000 on the line with an exciting trip to Las Vegas to compete alongside the world’s best esports competitors, the pressure is certainly mounting for these players. With over three weeks to go, the race to the 3Arena on Sunday 13th May is now red hot.”
“We were delighted to be a part of the Three EStars league activity this week at the Tallaght Stadium. This was the sixth round of an exciting new league which will culminate with the Grand Final at the 3Arena on May 13th. This partnership offers a unique gaming experience for the first time in Ireland. At Three, we are committed to providing the latest technology innovations such as providing the first smartphone from gaming giant Razer handset, exclusively on the Three network.
