Techies for Temple Street hits Dublin streets this week

Techies are by nature very smart people. We love a good quiz or puzzle to solve, more so if it is for a worthy cause.

Techies 4 Temple Street returns to Dublin on Friday, 8th July, bringing high tech hijinx to the streets of Dublin in the form of an urban treasure trail. Now in its second year, Techies 4 Temple Street brings outdoor activities together with a whole host of fun challenges.

The inaugural crown of ‘Smartest Techies’ went to Corvil, who tackled a series of Twitter challenges including selfies with live animals and Riverdancing. They will return to defend their title and join over 150 teams on 8th July who will battle it out to raise the coveted Techies 4 Temple Street Trophy.

Last year, over 700 members of the tech community undertook a myriad of tasks as they busked, hoola-hooped and sang their way around Dublin City Centre, raising over €150,000 in much-needed funds for Temple Street Children’s Hospital.

This year, funds raised by participating teams along with the generous support of leadership sponsors Homestay and Zendesk will go to support the construction of Temple Street’s new Neurology & Renal Outpatients Unit.

Temple Street is the national centre of excellence for paediatric Neurology and Renal Dialysis & Transplantation. Over the past eighteen months, Temple Street Foundation has been working hard to raise the €5 million needed to make it a reality. The new unit will directly benefit over 6000 sick children who attend Temple Street every year.

"It was wonderful to see all the participating companies come together and raise over €150,000 for such a worthy cause. Our teams had a fantastic time trailing around Dublin as part of this terrific event and we are thrilled to have won first place among such admirable competitors." - Emma Gallo, leader of the winning team in 2015

The event is the creation of Hostelworld Co-founder and Homestay Founder Tom Kennedy, who has pulled together an impressive organising committee for the event.

Denise Fitzgerald, CEO of Temple Street Foundation says, “The inaugural Techies 4 Temple Street in 2015 was a huge success and we know that this year’s event is going to be even bigger and better! Techies 4 Temple Street is more than just a fantastic team day out; it’s also a great opportunity to network with your peers in the tech community while doing something wonderful for sick children in Temple Street. Our leadership committee have been fantastic helping round up the teams and we’re looking forward to a fun, competitive day on 8th July. Watch out for some interesting challenges along the way!”
